Paddy & Karen in the Aura Gown

Karen and Paddy tied the knot at Finca Son Berga in Alaró, Mallorca. Their gorgeous boho and rustic ceremony took place in the old orchard filled with orange and lemon trees. The space was lined with large cypresses, a rustic stone staircase leading to the top of the hill and a floral arbor to complete the look.

A Boho and Rustic Wedding in Mallorca

Karen and Paddy tied the knot in Finca Son Berga, Mallorca. The couple always knew they would marry abroad. Their gorgeous boho and rustic ceremony took place in the garden, amongst the old orchard, orange and lemon trees. Lined with large cypress trees, a rustic stone staircase leading to the top of the hill and a floral arbor to complete the space. The formalities were celebrated with Karen and Paddy's nearest and dearest in the 'Es Pati' - front of the house, under the semicircular arch decorated with fairy lights, amongst the cobbled courtyard - how perfect!

The ceremony was full of surprises and emotions. Ulf, the celebrant, played a significant role in creating a beautiful narrative. He shared stories about the couple, collected from conversations he shared with Paddy in the years leading up to their wedding. When deciding to marry abroad, Karen shares how special it is to see the faces of their families and friends who traveled to be with them on this special day.

The Experience Behind the Dress

When it came to the dress, Karen chose Aura. It all began with a photograph on her Instagram explore page. Little did Karen know that the Aura gown, a style entirely different from anything she had seen before, would become her wedding dress. For Karen, it was the fabric that glistened and truly stole the show. Karen shares, “I thought the waist belt and bias cut at the bottom of the dress were unique too".

At the end of the day, destiny led her to say yes to the dress at our London boutique, two years prior to the wedding day. She came across our boutique when she was in London for the weekend and as fate would have it, ended up finding her dream gown. After dreaming about the Aura gown for a couple of months after, Karen had her dress delivered to her home in Dublin.

Now looking back at Karen’s wedding photos, we can see that Aura is the perfect choice for her boho and rustic style wedding aesthetic. The style complements how Karen sees herself as a Grace bride, “someone confident, elegant and timeless”.

Breaking Away from Tradition

Not many bridesmaids can say they had such a unique experience when it came to their dresses. For her wedding, Karen made the experience extra special for them by lovingly designing the dresses herself. Karen worked on the dresses for about a year, dreaming up concepts and working meticulously with a skilled dressmaker to perfect the intricate floral print and dress shape she had dreamt of for her bridesmaids. The fabric, which was sourced from Poland, seamlessly complemented Karen’s bohemian garden-themed wedding. It featured delicate butterflies in its design, while pastel florals and greenery adorned each dress.

A Personalized Touch

Karen also repurposed her mother's wedding dress, turning it into a bridal robe to wear on the morning of the wedding. She had the initials of her parents' wedding day, and her own, stitched into the robe belt. This personalized touch turned her mother's gown into an heirloom, a special part of her getting-ready ritual, and a cherished legacy to pass on to future generations. Karen shares, “Mum was so happy to see her dress brought back to life”. What better way to break away from tradition and give a deeper purpose to your bridal robe on your wedding morning?

Words of Wisdom

While it’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of anticipation and excitement of your wedding, Karen’s words of advice are simple: “be present and cherish every moment of the day”. Whether you’re caught up in the excitement of capturing photos or ensuring you connect with all your guests, it is essential to create opportunities for reflection on our special day – these are the moments you’ll cherish forever.

Paddy and Karen’s wedding was an 'unplugged' affair, an invitation for all to be fully present, with phones and cameras put aside, creating an intimate and cherished celebration. On a personal note, the celebration was a testament to authenticity and a cherished legacy. At Grace, we always preach that a ceremony should reflect what makes you unique. Whether you decide to customize your bridesmaid dresses or repurpose something meaningful to you, always be you.
